Loving God, Loving Each Other, Loving the World

February 2020 Update

Dear East Freo Church family,

It seems only yesterday when we celebrated Christmas and New Year together and our kids were enjoying the summer school holidays!  Now it’s almost the end of February and term 1 is well under way, and even our University students are starting their studies again.  Not only that, but we are already more than half way through our series on the Gospel of Mark and our Mark Challenge reading plan.  I hope you have been challenged and encouraged as we have returned to the words of Christ as recorded in the Gospel of Mark!  As 2020 continues to gain momentum, we have also been reminded that God is still very much present in our lives and is training us to be his disciples.  I can certainly say that I have been inspired each time I open up Mark’s Gospel to put my faith and my trust in our wonderful God and saviour Jesus Christ.

As I look back over the last few months, a number of highlights stand out for me.  I praise God for the many people from our community who visited our church for the Stepping Stones’ concerts and our Christmas services, and I pray that in some way they experienced the peace of God.  In early January, our youth enjoyed a combined youth camp with Mount Pleasant Baptist Church and BCWA which was very well attended and received.  I was also very pleased with the combined services trial we held over the school holidays and the way in which the Saturday service kicked off again in full strength when we reconvened in late January.  In addition to these highlights, we have continued to gather together for worship each week, sit under the reading and teaching of God’s Word, and fellowship and encourage each other through various ministries and events.

This weekend, many of us will head down to Busselton for our annual March Church Camp and I hope that all those who come will be greatly encouraged and refreshed as we enjoy God’s incredible creation together.  It is a wonderful chance to escape the busyness of life here in Perth and enjoy the beautiful and peaceful location on the shores of Geographe Bay.  After we return, we will continue working our way through the Gospel of Mark culminating with our Easter services in early April.  Beyond April, we will celebrate May Mission Month and then direct our attention to the 100 year centenary which we will celebrate on Sunday, November 1 in our church!  This will be a very significant moment in the life and history of our church and we are looking forward to this event with much anticipation.

I am very thankful to the Lord for calling Sam Indrawan to join our team this year as our new Youth Coordinator and I thank you for welcoming him so warmly into our church community.  As a result of this appointment, Pastor Adam will transition out of youth ministry and focus on Young Adults and Christian Education – including discipleship, evangelism and small groups.  We are prayerfully anticipating the formation of multiple new small groups this year as well as an improved focus on 1-1 discipleship and evangelism.  I am excited by this development and would encourage you to consider how you could be involved in some of these areas.

Finally, I want to thank you for your gracious support and prayers for our church community.  I look forward to joining many of you down in Busselton this weekend for our church camp where I hope the words of Jesus to his disciples will be an inspiration for us too:

Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest. (Mark 6:31)
