Loving God, Loving Each Other, Loving the World

February 2019 Update

Dear East Freo Church family

I hope you all had an enjoyable holiday period as we remembered and celebrated the birth of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ!  It was both a privilege and a pleasure to welcome so many people from our local community into our church for Christmas.  In addition to our Christmas services, what a joy it was to fill our church with the Stepping Stones community as we celebrated the great year that has been.  Another significant highlight over the school holidays was the youth camp.  I am so thankful for our wonderful youth leaders and also praise God for Campbell’s powerful and relevant teaching.  Now that we are already in February, though, the kids are back in school, many of our ministries have recommenced and even Easter is not that far away!  This is something I was starkly reminded of this morning when walking through Coles and seeing all of the Easter eggs already on the shelves!

Nevertheless, as we begin to approach Easter, we will be concluding the preaching series called Insights from the Inner Circle and then we will move onto a new 5-part series to lead us to Easter.  The series will be called The Passion of Christ where we will focus in on Jesus’ final week on Earth.  Immediately following this series we will hold our Good Friday and Easter Sunday services to remember the death and resurrection of our Lord.  The Easter weekend will also mark the end of our Essential Jesus Bible reading program.  I hope you have enjoyed getting into God’s Word on a daily basis as we have seen the prophecies of the Messiah fulfilled in the person of Jesus Christ.  I am aware of many people – young and old – who have been reading these passages daily and have been blessed by God’s Word.

During the December members’ planning meeting, I mentioned that we would run a church-wide survey in the early part of 2019.  This survey has now been finalised and is open for everyone to complete.  The survey itself is fairly short and will only take a few minutes to complete, however, it will provide the leadership team with important insight as we continue to think about the church strategy moving forward.  The survey also contains a few specific questions regarding ministry opportunities that we are keen to get your input on.  If you have not yet completed the survey, could I ask that you set aside 10-15 minutes and complete it?  Simply click on the following link to get started: eastfreo.church/survey.  If there is anything that you would like to discuss in more detail, please contact myself or pastor Adam or one of the Council members and we will be very happy to meet with you.

The East Freo Fresh program continues to roll out and we have recently resurfaced the timber floors in the hall and replaced the lighting in the church auditorium.  Both changes seem to have made a positive improvement to the church building which we thank God for.  Moving forward, we are working toward painting the church auditorium during the winter school holidays. You are welcome to keep track of the East Freo Fresh program on our website (eastfreo.church/fresh) and also send in suggestions and feedback.

This weekend many of us are heading down for the annual church camp at the Busselton Baptist campsite!  We are looking forward to a relaxing, fun and encouraging time away.  The speaker is finalising his talks, the material for the kids program is being printed and hopefully the Busselton crabs are making their way closer to the shore!  For those of you who are unable to make it this year, I am sure you will be blessed by the fellowship and preaching of God’s Word at our normal Sunday 10am service.

Thank you all for your ongoing prayers and support, for your encouragement, and for your regular giving and service to the Lord.  It is indeed a blessing to be part of this church community and to join together in building one another up in the Lord.

In Christ,
Ray Forlin
Senior Pastor
