Loving God, Loving Each Other, Loving the World

October 2018 Update

Dear East Freo Church family

Spring has finally sprung and it is slowly but surely beginning to warm up around Perth with gardens and flowers displaying new life! At the same time, we have been talking about new life in Christ as we have been working through a series looking at the different aspects of the grace of God. It is incredible to see the breadth and depth of God’s grace and yet at the same time, humbly realising that we are really only scratching the surface. Following our series on the grace of God, we will start a new series called Insights from the Inner Circle where the Apostle Peter will be our guide in showing us how to live out our faith in a world that is largely apathetic and sometimes even hostile to Christianity.

On October 27 and 28 this year we will have a special service where Mark Wilson, the Director of Ministries of Baptist Churches WA will join us. During the service he will share a bit more about the vision for Baptist churches in WA and also preach from God’s Word. As part of the service, Mark will also be formalising me as a fully accredited Baptist Pastor and welcoming me into the Baptist denomination.

The East Freo Fresh program continues to roll out and right now we are in the middle of Phase 4 where we are enhancing the auditorium and hall. We have recently installed some acoustic panelling into the ceiling in the hall and will soon be installing panels on the walls to reduce the echo even further, hopefully making it easier to have meaningful conversations. A significant highlight for our church was the successful roll out of the new chairs in the auditorium. We are very thankful to the Lord for making this possible and our heartfelt thanks also goes out to everyone who helped to purchase these chairs. The total cost of the chairs was approx. $9500 for 120 chairs which was fully paid for through the pledges. We have already noticed an improvement in the acoustics in the auditorium due to the chairs and many people have commented on how comfortable the new chairs are. We praise the Lord for enabling us to freshen up our church through the East Freo Fresh program and continue to pray for his wisdom in using our funds appropriately in this area. You are welcome to keep track of the East Freo Fresh program on our website ( and also send in suggestions and feedback.

Earlier this month, Pastor Adam and his team held the Jesus the Game Changer event at the Preston Point Sports Club in East Fremantle. The event itself was extremely well planned and executed and it was exciting to see approx. 40 people attending the event. Our prayer is that events like this help to break down barriers that people have with the Christian faith and also increase our visibility in the local community. I was personally very pleased to be able to invite my mother along and watch as she engaged in deep conversation about the intrinsic worth and equality of all people. Following this event, Pastor Adam has been running through a number of the follow-up topics on Wednesday nights in the church and these will continue to run until October 10.

It is hard to believe that Christmas is just around the corner, so as a result we are already beginning to think about and plan our Christmas events and services. On Saturday, December 1 we will be inviting the Stepping Stones community into the church for our annual Stepping Stones celebration service where we highlight the year that has been and also enjoy some performances from the kids. This year we will be asking everyone to book tickets for the event to ensure that we don’t seat more than our legal capacity. Nevertheless, we are prayerfully confident that it will be an excellent event where we celebrate the Stepping Stones community and also continue to break down barriers to people attending church and experiencing the Christian faith. We will be asking regular Saturday churchgoers to set aside this day as an opportunity to serve the Stepping Stones community by coming along as volunteers and servants rather than attendees.

Our yearly member’s planning meeting is coming up in November with a date to be announced soon.  As part of this planning meeting, members will be provided with the provisional budget for next year, the annual ministry plan, an update from Stepping Stones and an update on the overall church strategy.  It is our prayer and belief that the Lord will guide us as we gather together to seek his direction for the next year of ministry.

Thank you also to everyone who updated their personal details on the church directory forms as this improves our ability to connect with you.  We are currently working through the data entry and hope to send out the updated directory soon.  If you missed out on updating your details, it’s not too late to download and fill out the form (Church directory form) and send it through to Corinne (

On a final note, I want to thank all of you for your support of Corinne, Pastor Adam, myself, the church Council and all of our church coordinators, volunteers and their families. It has been a very busy year, however, the church community has been incredibly supportive. I also want to thank you for your regular and generous giving that enables us to serve you week by week and maintain a healthy church budget. We are very thankful to God’s call on our lives and the opportunity to minister to you. May you all be blessed and strengthened by the incredible grace of our Lord and as the Apostle Peter prays:

Grace and peace be yours in abundance!

In Christ,
Ray Forlin
Senior Pastor
